A rear axle subframe and motor vehicle having such a rear axle subframe. What is proposed is, inter alia, a rear axle subframe (6) for a motor vehicle (1), with two side parts (7, 8) running in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle (X direction) and with a first, front and a second, rear crossmember (9; 10, 10') connecting the side parts (7, 8) to each other, wherein the rear axle subframe (6) surrounds a free space (35) in which a drive unit (2) mounted and fastened on the rear axle subframe (6) is arranged or can be arranged, and wherein the side parts (7, 8) each have a clearance (37) for said drive unit (2) and, in regions, a cross-sectional constriction (36) and/or a local reduction in wall thickness, forming a predetermined buckling point (38).
