Method for selecting and optimizing oilfield controls for the production plateau comprising: - determining a reservoir model, - generating with numerical tools a development plan comprising a facility model and controls for a predetermined production rate, preferably the FOPR, comprising this development plan: o the distribution of production well locations and, optionally, injection well locations for the reservoir model, or a drilling program and or well control, - simulate with numerical tools the reservoir model under the conditions of the development plan for the predetermined production rate adapted to generate an average production profile and the duration of the plateau, in which the selection of controls for the production plateau comprises the following iterative method : - provide an approximate estimate for the rate variable of production, - provide a cost function that evaluates an average classification measure, preferably the NPV net present value, according to the production rate variable, - as long as the average classification measure is not maximum, carry out the following steps: or simulate the reservoir model for the production rate value by providing the facility model and the average classification measure, or if the average classification measure is not maximum, generate a new production rate, - provide the reservoir controls according to the production rate that makes the average classification measure maximum.
