A variant of arabinose isomerase having an increased activity of converting D-galactose into Dtagatose, the variant of arabinose isomerase having a substitution of an amino acid other than phenylalanine for an amino acid at position 275 and a replacement of proline for an amino acid in position 469 of an amino acid sequence shown in SEQ ID NO: 1.
