Disclosed are an image feature point detecting device based a corner edge pattern and a method thereof. The image feature point detecting device based on a corner edge pattern according to an embodiment of the present invention can detect a corner image feature stably despite deformations of the size, bearing, and shape of an image by considering various corner edge patterns which a corner can have by including: a corner edge pattern generating unit which calculates an edge pattern score about the current pixel based on gradient magnitude and gradient direction of an input image and generates a corner edge pattern about the current pixel based on the calculated edge pattern score; an initial corner candidate point selecting unit which selects an initial corner candidate point by comparing an initial corner threshold value with initial corner reliability calculated based on the generated corner edge pattern; a bearing histogram generating unit which generates a bearing histogram about adjacent pixels based on the selected initial corner candidate point; and a final feature point selecting unit which selects a final feature point from final corner reliability calculated based on two top bins of the generated bearing histogram.
