The present invention relates to a method of timing a radio signal generated from a transmitter to a receiver. The radio signal comprises a series of frequency chirps. A system includes a step of receiving the radio signal from the transmitter; a step of synthesizing projection vectors including a series of frequency chirps that are a complex-conjugate image of things contained in the radio signal, a synthesizing step where the projection vectors are time-shifted with respect to each other by determined time shift intervals; a step of multiplying the received radio signal with the projection vectors and accumulating the results; and a step of interpolating the accumulated results to determine a peak time shift.
