The present invention relates to a novel sol-gel process for the synthesis of uniformly carbon-coated LiFePO (LiFePO / AS). The method comprises the steps of: mixing a lithium source, a phosphorus source and a carbon source with a solution containing Fe ions to form a gel; and calcining the gel to provide uniform carbon-coated LiFePO (LiFePO / AS). According to the invention, the phosphorus source is a phosphonic acid.
