To provide a rotary electric machine of forced air cooling type capable of reducing the fan driving power and fan noises by reducing the amount of excess cooling air.SOLUTION: The rotary electric machine comprises a stator and a rotator which is dispose being opposite to the stator at the inner diameter side being interposed by a predetermined gap. The rotary electric machine comprises a fan which rotates integrally with the rotator, and has a variable aperture mechanism for changing cross area of the channel in a part a channel of cooling air which is driven by the rotating fan.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
