The present invention relates to a method for detecting Episodic falling syndrome (EFS) or similar nervous disorders or prepositions therefore in mammals. This is achieved by the detection of a deletion in the brevican gene ( BCAN) comprising at least one of exon 1, exon 2 and/or exon 3.
