The appliance (1) for cooking food further comprises displacement means (31, 32) able to reciprocally move the first heating plate (10) and the second heating plate (20) between a working position, wherein the first heating surface and the second heating surface (120) are arranged parallel to each other and at the minimum separation distance, and a rest position, wherein the first heating surface and the second heating surface (120) are arranged inclined to each other and at the maximum distance of separation, wherein said displacement means (31, 32) are able to reciprocally move the first heating plate (10) and the second heating plate (20) with a roto-translation movement.
