Absorptive black azo pigment having a new skeleton and having excellent blackness and excellent durability such as solvent resistance and a colorant useful for forming a black matrix or a light shielding film using the black azo pigment. (1) (In the general formula (1), R ₁ represents an aryl group which may have a substituent). Further, it is a colorant containing the black azo pigment suitable as a material for forming a black matrix or a light-shielding film for a color filter.
