PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a black pigment having such optical characteristics that a colored composition comprising the black pigment gives a colored article which absorbs light in a wavelength range at a longer wavelength side of a visible light region to develop black or dark coloring and which shows high transmissivity or high reflectivity in a near-infrared region from 800 to 1400 nm, and to provide a black pigment useful particularly for forming an insulating BM (black matrix) that can be formed as integrated with an electrode of a CF (color filter).SOLUTION: A black azo pigment is provided, which is obtained by a coupling reaction of a diazo component and a coupling component, and includes a plurality of chromophores of an azomethine group and an azo group in a molecule. At least one coupling component is a compound having a chemical structure having a 2-hydroxy-11H-benzo[a]-carbazol-3-carboamide residue.
