An elevator apparatus comprising a signal diagnostic apparatus (29), the signal diagnostic apparatus (29) comprising: - an interrupt detection unit (31) for detecting whether there is an interruption of a signal from a sensor (7, 16, 19a, 19b, 20, 22) not, which generates a signal in response to a state of the car - a switch (32) for turning on / off an input of the signal at the interruption detection unit (31); and - an interruption detection diagnosis unit for operating the switch (32) to make a diagnosis as to whether or not the interruption detection unit (31) is normal, stopping a car (1) of the elevator when the presence of the interruption of the signal from the sensor (7, 16, 19a, 19b, 20, 22) is detected by the signal diagnostic device (29) or when an abnormality is detected in the interruption detection unit (31) by the interruption detection diagnostic unit (33).
