An electro-optic modulator (EOM) (1, figure 1), and a method of producing such, suitable for altering an optical path length of an optical field 21, the EOM comprises: a first Brewster-angle cut nonlinear crystal 16 having a first optical axis 22; a second Brewster-angle cut nonlinear crystal 17 having a second optical axis 22; wherein, the first and second optical axes are orientated relative to each other such that when the optical field 21 propagates through the first and second crystals it experiences no overall deviation; the two non-linear crystals are orientated relative to each other such that the light output axis of the first crystal is coincident with the light input axis of the second crystal and the first and second Brewster-angle cut nonlinear crystals are arranged to be opposite handed relative to the optical field; light enters, and exits, the two crystals via different polished faces 18, 19. The EOM may comprise a mounting apparatus (figure 4) for locating the crystals.
