A welding robot is provided. The welding robot is adapted for operating in thespace between anupper and a lower platen of a press and comprises a support frame. A weldingtool is movablemounted to the support frame. A grinding tool is movable mounted to thesupport frame. At leasta camera is adapted for capturing a view of a working area. A processor isadapted for executingexecutable commands stored in a storage medium connected thereto. Theprocessor whenexecuting the commands identifies defects on a surface of one of the upper andthe lower platenbased on image data received from the at least a camera and controls thewelding tool and thegrinding tool in dependence on the image data. The processor receives dataindicative of therepair area, automatically determines toolpath data for welding and grindingin dependence uponthe data indicative of a repair area, and generates and provides control datafor controlling thewelding tool and the grinding tool in dependence upon the toolpath data.
