The purpose of this study is to clear the tendency and problem of dance studies to surveythe past relational studies published in magazines of higher educational organization from1950u27s to 2000u27s in Japan. In this work, all studies were looked up in NII scholarly and academicinformation navlgator.The result of this study may be summarized as follows.① According to the classified list of dance studies designed by Prof. KATAOKA Yasuko,all studies were classified. The result of classification made two characteristic tendenciescleared. One is the gradual extension of field on dance studies. From 1950u27s to 1960u27s dancestudies were leaded by studies in dance education, dance arts, dance presentation and so on.Since 1970u27s dance studies were extended to studies in dance history, dance sociology, danceanthropology, and dance psychology. The other is the large in quantity of studies in danceeducation. Especially the latter characteristic is remarkable in dance studies because studiesin dance education have always been the nucleus of dance studies.② To clear the problem of dance studies, this study attended to studies in dance education onschool physical education. According to the classified list of studies in pedagogy of physicaleducation designed by Prof. TAKAHASHI Takeo, relational studies were classified. Prof.TAKAHASHI classified studies in pedagogy of physical education by practical studies,theoretical studies, and fundamental studies. As a result of classification, the amount ofpractical studies was ranked first, fundamental studies were ranked second, and theoreticalstudies were ranked third. In the classified list of studies in pedagogy of physical education,theoretical studies have a role of mediation between practical studies and fundamentalstudies. It could be considered that the small in quantity of theoretical studies indicate thelack of consistency on studies in dance education on school physical education. Thereforethe accumulation of theoretical studies was brought forward as a problem on dance studies.
