In this thesis project, the startup of the semi – industrial anaerobic digestion plant in the agribusiness Latinoamericana de Jugos S.A. (La Jugosa) is executed to assure the success of its operation. The project begins with the verification of the accomplishment of the project, through visits to the provider Inoxking, in order to assure the correct construction and assembly of the main equipment according to the contract. Cold commissioning is set forth in the plant on which water was used as material to guarantee that all the equipment and control units work properly. Afterwards, warm commissioning is set forth with the use of fruit waste, manure and water, to assure the right adjustments and operation of the anaerobic digestion process. Throughout these tests the equipment was calibrated in order to adjust the operation parameters according to the requirements of the anaerobic digestion process. During the realization of all the execution of the commissioning, corrective and preventive actions plant can operate effectively and without risk.Additionally, experiments are set forth at laboratory scale in the “Laboratorio de Desarrollo de Energías Alternativas (LaDEA)”, in order to assure that the fruit washing water from “Latinoamericana de Jugos” can be used in the anaerobic digestion process without leading to inhibitions in the degradation of the organic material due to the presence of detergents. Favorable results were obtained during the experiments with the production of biogas which contained a high percentage of methane. The optimal organic charge for the alimentation was of 0.5 [kgDQO/m3 d] which although having a much lower production of biogas, contained the highest percentage of methane, with a biogas production of the 800[mL/d] and 560 [mL/d] of methane.
