Opportunistic Networks are a specific type of wireless ad hocudnetwork where there is an absence of a continuous end-to-end path. Theudproliferation of mobile devices with Wi-Fi capability creates opportunitiesudto forward packets by utilizing nodes as they present themselves. Such auddynamic networking environment enables services to be advertised byudpropagating from device to device, in order that all users in an area receiveudthem. However, excessive propagation of service advertisementsudconsumes energy from mobile devices, whilst also degrading the users’udexperience if they receive adverts for services that are misaligned withudtheir personal interests. In this article we propose an architecture for audprotocol and an algorithm that facilitates the matching of relevant serviceudadverts with interested recipients in an Opportunistic Networkingudenvironment, whilst serving to minimize energy consumption.
