Enhancing the Safety of America's Food Supply. Food Safety Round Table.

The Charles Valentine Riley Memorial Foundation convened a Food Safety Round Table designed to facilitate communications among diverse groups that have interest in enhancing the safety of America's food supply. Key issues related to food safety were considered by the thirty-two participants representing academia, government, industry, and public interest groups. The Round Table was opened with a scientific overview by six scientists who focused on five major food safety issues: (1) microbial contamination, (2) naturally occurring toxicants, (3) pesticide residues, (4) food additives and irradiation, and (5) genetically modified products. The Round Table participants concurred in a common goal of working together to insure the availability of an affordable, high quality, and safe food supply.
