Study of Monopolies and Competition Policy in Zimbabwe

There is a growing concern in Zimbabwe over the lack of domestic and international competitiveness among the country's firms. The study explores the extent and causes of this stagnation and presents an action plan to reverse it. An introductory chapter recounts Zimbabwe's political and economic history. Chapter two reviews the key elements of competition analysis. A third chapter then applies competition analysis to Zimbabwe's manufacturing sector. Efforts to control restrictive business practices are discussed in chapter four. Chapter five discusses the rationale and elements of competition policy. Chapters six and seven discuss, respectively, institutional means for fashioning a free market system and legislative and procedural means. A final chapter presents an action program to enhance competitiveness.
