The upstream slopes of embankment dams and dikes typically require protectionagainst the damaging effects of wave action, surface runoff, weathering, ice, and floating debris. The standard presents guidelines for site-specific design of riprap slope protection. It also presents a discussion of the major considerations and procedures for design and construction of riprap slope protection to achieve acceptable performance consistent with reasonable construction and maintenance costs.
