Performance of a Monitoring System for Measurement of SO2 and NO2 Dry DepositionFluxes to a Forest

The authors have developed a monitoring system for determination of SO2 and NO2dry deposition fluxes to forests. The system consists of several meteorological instruments, gas monitors, a computer and data acquisition equipment. Fluxes of SO2 and NO2 are determined from the data, measured with the system, according to the gradient method. Fluxes of NO2 are measured with the eddy correlation technique as well. The report deals with the performance of the system, which was studied from December 1991 to August 1992 in the laboratory and in the field. The report serves as a basis for further work with the monitoring system. After the performance study the system was installed at the site Speulder forest (in November 1992), where it was operated, further improved and extended with instruments for determination of NH3 fluxes. Other research on deposition processes and acidification is also conducted at this site.
