This report summarizes work on development of a downhole high-pressure pumpingsystem for jet-assisted drilling. Jet-assisted drilling utilizes a high-pressure jet of water or drilling mud directed at the gauge of the hole to erode and/or weaken the rock so that TSP/PDC or roller bits can drill faster reducing overall drilling costs. This is particularly useful in deep wells where the penetration rate slows with increasing depth. This project developed two keys components of the pump system, including the motor and the high-pressure pump. These components were developed using existing centrifugal submersible oil-field pump parts. The results are a turbine motor capable of developing 360 HP and high-pressure pump that can produce 22 gpm at 10,000 psi.
