The U.S. land drilling market, particularly gas drilling, was evaluated to assessthe potential market for ultrahigh-pressure (UHP) jet-assisted drilling utilizing a downhole pump (DHP) to develop the ultrahigh pressure. The analysis specifically addressed the following issues: drilling market outlook, potential DHP market size, potential economic benefits, market locations, market well depth ranges, DHP (or bit) sizes, and the potential impact of trends in other drilling technologies. From a review of recent (1992) historical U.S. land drilling activity, ten active drilling regions emphasizing gas drilling were selected as the basis of analysis.
