Standardization of Availability, Location, and Use of Safety Equipment on UrbanTransit Buses

The document represents the conclusion of a project undertaken to identifyguidelines which will correct the problems encountered by rescue forces while attempting to gain entry to, shut down, and evacuate urban transit buses involved in an emergency or accident. This Final Report presents (1) the availability, location , and use of eleven key safety components on six urban transit models; (2) the process used in the development of standardization guidelines; and (3) proposed guidelines for the potential standardization of eight key safety components on urban transit buses.
