摘要

A long-term experiment on the degradation of Low-Level Radioactive Wastes (LLRW)was performed at Chalk River Laboratories (CRL). The wastes consist of non-immobilized compacted refuse containing mostly organic materials: paper, mop heads, paper, towels, used clothing, etc., collected in the active area of CRL. This experiment provides information on many aspects related to near-surface disposal: leaching rates, leaching constants, porewater ionic composition, levels and nature of the Dissolved Organic Carbon (DOC), source term of colloidal material, microbial degradation rates, gas generation rates etc. The current report is intended to be a primary reference, to provide a complete description of the experiment, to describe some of the miscellaneous analytical methods, and to collate the raw results.
