Evaluation of Low Temperature Cracking in Asphalt Pavement Mixes

This report examines the feasibility of using the thermal stress restrained211u001especimen test to evaluate low temperature cracking in asphalt pavement mixes. 211u001eData were collected from laboratory and field evaluations. Various mixing, aging, 211u001eand compaction methods were used to prepare test samples with materials obtained 211u001efrom two WYDOT highway projects. Field data were obtained from two recently built 211u001etest sections to compare with laboratory test results. Pavement condition surveys 211u001equantified low temperature cracking of both test sections after one winter. 211u001eTemperature data for these projects sites were also collected. Pavement condition 211u001eand temperature data were compared to results from the thermal stress restrained 211u001especimen test.
