In 1995 six regional consortia were funded by the United States Department of211u001eEducation, Office of Educational Research and Improvement under the new National 211u001eRegional Technology in Education Consortia (RTEC) Program, to assist and support 211u001ein efforts to integrate advanced funding as individual projects, the RTEC program 211u001ewas and is conceptualized for its potential to create a national system of 211u001esupport thorugh learning-focused professional development, assistance, 211u001einformation resource dissemination and regional and national cooperation and 211u001eresource sharing. The RTEC helps schools, communities, states, regions, and the 211u001enation to move ahead, to develop, expand, and make more equitable and effective, 211u001ethe meaningful access to and use of technologies for the improvement, reform and 211u001etransformation of education and lifelong learning and for increasing information 211u001eage opportunities for all learners.
