Ethnographic Overview and Assessment: Booker T. Washington National Monument

The research summarized here was prompted by the continuing effort to interpret Booker T. Washington National Monument (BOWA) in light of its relationship to slavery, racism, and race relations in America. In 1997, concurrently with its General Management Plan process, the park commissioned Dr. Willie Baber, Professor of Anthropology at University of North Carolina at Greensboro, to undertake a study of past and present ethnographic and historical resources at BOWA.
