Design and Development of a Dictionary Translator

As part of its Electronic Commerce of Component Information (ECCI) project,211u001eNIST's Electronic Information Technology Group has been involved in research on 211u001etools and methodologies for accessing data dictionaries via on-line computer 211u001enetworks such as the World Wide Web (WWW). One facet of this research involved 211u001eworking with the industry consortia, known as the Silicon Intergration Initiative 211u001e(SI2), to develop a software translator that could convert existing electronic 211u001edata dictionaries into a standard dictionary format. Such a software program 211u001ewould provide a basic part of the infrastructure necessary to enable electronic 211u001ecommerce of electronic components. This paper describes the design and 211u001edevelopment of the dictionary translation tool. The translator (referred to as 211u001e'2CIDS') accepts input data in one of two different formats and outputs a single 211u001edictionary standard format based on the Component Information Dictionary Standard 211u001e(CIDS).
