The current research activities detailed in this annual report, focus on211u001ephysiochemical fundamentals and the modelling of metallurgical operations. 211u001eProcesses that benefit from this researh include modern extractive processes for 211u001eferrous and non-ferrous metals, casting and solidification of molten products and 211u001ematerials synthesis at high temperatures. A highlight of 1998 was increased 211u001eparticipation in Europe joint research. The Laboratory of Metallurgy acted as 211u001epartner or subcontractor in five European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) 211u001eProjects.
