Electromagnetic Boundary Conditions in Differential-Form Formalism

A simple way of deriving the electromagnetic boundary conditions in the211u001edifferential form formalism is outlined. The derivation is based on gluing 211u001etogether two independent electromagnetic source-field systems each existing in an 211u001earbitrary electromagnetic environment. The combined electromagnetic source-field 211u001esystem contains a surface separating regions of the two original systems and 211u001emedia. It is shown that, in general, additional sources at the surface are needed 211u001efor the new system to satisfy the Maxwell equations. This requirement is seen to 211u001ecreate a set of boundary conditions at the surface. As a by-product, Huygens' 211u001eprinciple can be formulated in differential form of formalism.
