Isocyanates are chemical substances that may cause respiratory allergies even at very low concentrations. They are the most common cause of work-related allergies. Therefore it is important to avoid exposure to isocyanates and undertake control measures in such environments where exposure may occur. A series of effective control measures to avoid exposure to isocyanates are recommended. They are based on measurements of exposure to isocyanates and amines (which frequently occur together with isocyanates) during typical operations in car body workshops. Measurements, tests and evaluations have also been made of different control measures.
