摘要

This thesis addresses the application of models for the development and optimization of fed-batch bioprocesses. Mathematical models are not yet widely applied in bio-process industry for various reasons. However, it is expected that a model-based approach for the development of these processes will reduce their development time and will yield a better understanding of the process dynamics. Different types of models, varying from knowledge-based to data-based models, have been studied for this purpose. The proposed methods are applied to the model-based development of a fed-batch process for clavulanic acid production by the filamentous microorganism streptomyces clavuligerus.
