Final Report on Carcinogens Background Document for Human Papillomaviruses: Genital-Mucosal Types.

摘要

Human papillomaviruses (HPV) are DNA viruses that belong to the papillomaviridae family, which includes more than 100 types specific to humans and additional virus types that infect only specific animal species. The HPVs infect the squamous epithelium of the skin and mucosal membranes. This document is restricted to a review of the genitalmucosal-associated types, which include more than 35 types that have been classified in the literature as either high risk or low risk. High-risk viruses are associated with cervical cancer, whereas low-risk viruses are associated with genital warts or low-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia.
