The electrochemical method of preparing fluorine containing materials involves the passage of a DC current through a solution of an organic material and anhydrous liquid hydrogen fluoride at a potential between 4.5 and 5.5 volts. The heart of the method is the electrochemical unit, a container that holds the solution in which is immersed a series of parallel nickel plates, anodes and cathodes suitably insulated from each other electrically. The auxiliary equipment is used to maintain the proper operating conditions. It consists of the following items.
