Regulation of Food Intake and Physical Activity and the Control of Obesity

Current investigations are concerned with four major areas of study:n1. Continuation of studies which indicate that decreased physical activity may play an important part in the pathogenesis and maintainance of the obesity of at least some women.n2. Continuation of long-term studies of the relation of life stress and carbohydrate metabolism.n3. An intensive study of psychological and physiological characteristics of twenty-five obese men is being undertaken in an effort to determine which characteristics of obese persons are specific for obesity and which are at least partly related to gender role.n4. A study of the relative effectiveness of various forms of treatment in the management of obesity is being completed and efforts are being directed to discovering factors which may be of importance in prognosis and treatment of obese persons.
