STATISTICAL TECHNIQUES IN LIFE TESTING:TESTS FOR THE VALIDITY OF THE ASSUMPTION THAT UNDERLYING DISTRSUTION OF LIFE IS EXPONENTIAL

In this paper we give a variety of procedures for testing, on the basis of life teat data, whether there are significant departures from an exponential distribution of life. The particular procedures that one should adopt depend on the class of alternatives one is testing against. A number of the tests ore based in an essential way on fundamental properties of Poisson processes. Questions involving choice of tests are considered, and a number of examples are worked out.
