QUESTIONNAIRE DESIGN AND MACHINE PROCESSING SYSTEMS FOR UNIFORM MATERIALnCOMPARISON STUDIES

Uniforms were fabricated from four 50％ cotton-50％ dacron experimental sum¬mer uniform fabrics and were worn by test participants at the Greenville, Luke, Scott, Wright-Patterson Air Force Bases, and a few from other areas. These areas were selected to give a range of climatic conditions and duty assignments under which the uniform would be worn. A questionnaire was prepared for the purpose of collecting data from the test participants with the intention of using hand methods for tabulation purposes. Later the program was expanded to the point where hand tabulations were no longer feasible. The monthly reports were coded for and summarized by an IBM 65O Data Processing Machine with index¬ing registers and high speed storage. The percentage distributions of responses by items are presented in Appendix II.
