摘要

The separation of an oil-in-water emulsion has recently been of primary concern in oil pollution control. Since the efficiency of virtually all separation processes is a decreasing function of smaller oil particle diameter, the reduction in the number of these smaller diameter particles will increase the overall efficiency of all these separation processes. The effects of long chain, turbulent drag reducing polymers on oil-in-water emulsions were studied using the Coulter Counter. Both 50ppm polyethylene oxide and 500ppm Separan MGL proved to reduce particle counts while 500ppm polyethylene oxide had the adverse effect of increasing the density. Solutions of 4.4% polyisobutylene in cetane and 50ppm Separan MGL had no noticeable effect on the size distribution.
