摘要

A method is presented for evaluating the stiffness of unbraced,high-rise steel frames under working load conditions and for proportioning them to satisfy deflection constraints. The proposed approach is well suited to be used in conjunction with plastic design methods which sub-divide frames into storey units. The coupling of these two techniques will ensure that both strength and stiffness requirements are met. It is shown that in conventional frames an increase in beam stiffness has a far greater effect in controlling lateral sway than a similar change in column sizes.
