Estimation of Decay in Old-Growth Western Hemlock and Sitka Spruce in Southeast Alaska

Trees on sixty seven 1/5th-acre plots were dissected so that a method could be developed for making unbiased estimates of decay in western hemlock (Tsuga heterophylla) and Sitka spruce (Picea sitchensis) on commercial forest land in southeast Alaska. Decay in both species was related to many variables, but relationships were weak.
