摘要

The effect of variation of the welding parameters on the production of fume is studied using standard procedures in the automated welding facility of The Danish Welding Institute. The total fume produced per electrode is found to increase linearly with increasing clamp voltage, at constant welding current. The total fume per electrode is found to be independent of current at constant voltage. The burning time per electrode varies inversely with current, so that the fume production rate increases with current, so that the fume production rate increases with increasing current and increasing voltage, and hence the ventilation requirements for maintaining a given fume density is dependent on the power consumed in the welding process. Based on these results, a new type of electrode classification scheme is proposed, in which an electrode classification scheme is proposed, in which an electrode 'profile' is developed showing the way in which the productivity (in Kg/hr) to ventilation requirement (in cu m/sec) ration varies with power. This profile is unique for each rod, and can serve as a guide to selection of rod type, and operating parameters to achieve the best cost benefit ratios for welding based on hygienic considerations.
