Low Temperature Cure Catalyst Systems for Wash and Wear Finishing

In normal practice, the resin finished fabrics are cured at 150C for 4 to 5 minutes. Due to shortage of electric power, ATIRA has developed in 1973, a catalyst system known as Catalyst LCR which cures the resin finished fabrics at 125C in 4 to 5 minutes. In continuation of this work, two more catalyst systems viz., Catalysts LCR1 and Catalysts PD have been developed. With Catalysts LCR1, it is possible to cure the resin treated fabrics at 110C in about two minutes. Catalyst PD is meant to cure the resin during drying stage only. This eliminates a separate curing operation, leading to extra savings. The advantages of new catalyst systems are: (a) Saving in electric power; (b) Reduction in labor cost; and (c) Low cost in comparison to magnesium chlorides.
