摘要

The research objectives were:to determine the relationship between various types of hemodialysis therapy and patient response;to examine in patients the levels of conjugated amino acids including peptides,for significant differences from normal and for significant changes during hemodialysis;to define clearance rates of these endogenous materials during hemodialysis;and to improve methods for measuring these materials. In earlier studies using Sephadex G-50column chromatography,the authors had accomplished a preliminary fractionation of plasma into 3groups of materials--proteins (Peak I),amino acids and conjugated amino acids including peptides (Peak II),and uric acid (Peak III). To study the Peak II peptides in plasma,the isolation procedures were modified to eliminate aryl acid amino acid conjugates. Enriched peptide fractions from uremic patients contained approximately threefold higher amounts of peptides than those from normal subjects. Hemodialysis consistently decreased the plasma levels of total peptides,but reduction varied from 20to 140moles/ml of plasma.
