Livestock Production in the Subhumid Zone of West Africa: A Regional Review

This report on livestock production in the subhumid zone of West Africa is based on the results of a symposium held in Kaduna, Nigeria in March 1979, co-sponsored by the International Livestock Centre for Africa and the National Animal Production Research Institute. A definition of the zone is given, followed by a brief description of the environment and the Fulani pastoralists who own most of the livestock. The fodder and animal resources of the zone are then described, followed by section on tsetse-transmitted trypanosomiasis and other animal diseases, and concluding with an analysis of land-use and development strategies.
