Volume 5 consists of sections on Atmospheric Resources, Coastal Systems, Earth Sciences, and Hydrologic Studies. Five of the twelve papers under Atmospheric Resources are concerned with air quality as it affects vegetation or visibility in parks of the Appalachian Mountains or southeast. Monitoring systems, atmospheric deposition studies, impact of man-made noise on natural sound, air pollution transport and diurnal winds of the southcentral Sierra Nevada. Subjects of the five papers in the Coastal Systems section include changes in barrier island topography, genesis of Gulf Coast barrier islands. Earth Sciences contains results of ten geological studies conducted in western or Alaskan parks. Glacial processes and topography, fluvial processes in Redwood National Park, and natural rock arches are among the topics presented.
