The main purpose of this volume is to enable verification and location of what the compilers term "shadow literature." More specifically, its aim is to help in the identification of conference publications when data are incomplete and to locate proceedings in the National Science Library. The word conference, broadly defined, denotes formal meetings for presentation and discussion of papers related to the health sciences and embraces symposia, congresses, colloquia, workshops, and panels, including those that are arranged regularly or irregularly by publishers or editors as collections of papers on specific subjects. This listing concerns itself primarily with those conference proceedings that are published as multi-volume works, monographs with specific titles and editors and supplements or special numbers of journals. Transactions of regularly held academic and society meetings, as well as staff conferences, are excluded.
