Utilization and Improvement of an Experimental Method to Optimize the Wave Power of Ships

Previous research employing the XY method of wave resistance survey in conjunction with an optimization theory is continued in the Webb Model Tank to find the best size of a bow bulb or other hull form change by analysis of runs with and without the change. A model of the Mar Ad Multi-Purpose Mobilization Ship is investigated and 'mapped' over the forebody region to determine when such hull form changes would be beneficial or adverse. Further progress in refinement of the method and equipment and data analysis scheme is made.
