Seasonal Growth of Submersed Aquatic Macrophytes in the St. Clair-Detroit River Ecosystem

Growth of submersed aquatic macrophytes was determined using samples collected approximately monthly from April to November 1978 at seven locations in the St. Clair-Detroit River Ecosystem. At all seven locations, submersed macrophyte biomass was low in April and May, increased during early summer, peaked between July and October, and decreased by late November. Maximum seasonal biomass of submersed macrophytes at six of the seven locations (118-427 g/sq m dry weight) was similar in range to that found in other rivers at similar latitudes.
