摘要

There were 12 candidate antiviral substances tested. No significant antiviral activity could be demonstrated against any of the viral model systems used with 8 of the substances. Significant antiviral activity was observed with ARA-AMP, phosphonoacetate, amantadine, and ribavirin. The antiviral activity was indicated by a reduction in the days of virus shedding, a reduction in the febrile response, a reduction in the signs of disease, or a reduction in the mortality rate. The swine model systems were useful in the overall evaluation of antiviral substances when compared with the results in other species and clinical trials in man. The swine model system could be valuable in studying the pathogenesis of selected host-virus-drug interactions.
